The local take
Underrated 4-court park in Tustin. Less crowded than Irvine, friendlier skill mix than Santa Ana's Jerome. No lights — strictly daylight play.
What it's like to play here
Heritage Park's 4 pickleball courts are tucked behind a fence at the back of the park, past the playground and the picnic shelters. Most people walking by don't realize they're there, which is exactly why we like it.
Surface is standard concrete — not as smooth as Jerome Park's repainted lines, not as cushioned as Bill Barber's sport-court. Plays fine. The lines are clear enough; the nets are permanent and reasonably tight.
The skill mix is the differentiator. Heritage attracts 3.0–4.0 mostly-local play. If you're learning, this is the better park to make mistakes at. If you're 4.5+ looking for tough drilling partners, Bill Barber will give you more.
Where it stands out: almost always a court open during weekday play. The park is a hidden-gem situation — even at 6pm on a Tuesday you can usually walk on. Where it falls short: no lights means hard cutoff at sunset. Winter Tuesday play ends at 5pm. Summer is fine until 8.
When to go (and when not to)
- Best: weekday afternoon, weekend mornings before 11am.
- Avoid: anything after sunset (literally no light), summer high-noon (no shade).
How to get there
Off the 5 at Red Hill or Jamboree, then south to Tustin Village Way. Park entrance is well-signed. Walk past the playground; courts are at the back. Free lot fits 30+ cars; never seen it full.
Restrooms are clean and open. The water fountain near the courts works. There's a small concession stand near the picnic shelters on weekend afternoons — surprisingly decent street tacos.
